There’s something about a work of art that tells each viewer a different Storie. Being surrounded by art brings out your personal hopes, joys, and dreams of living well. With its rich history of supporting the arts, it’s not a wonder that Martin County is rife with public art and a haven for dozens of renowned artists, whose work inspires and encourages your aspirations. The breathtaking natural environment also inspires the artists themselves.

World-renowned impressionist painter Julia Kelly, who makes her home in Stuart, FL, brings her utopian vistas to the community, which provides the perfect backdrop for her nature-inspired works that can be 10 feet tall or larger. You can also view the work—and even visit the magical gallery—of naturalist, sculptor, painter, and photographer Geoffrey Smith, whose “lost-wax process” sculptures reach their pinnacle in his downtown Stuart Sailfish Monument and his public Waterbirds Collection.

Downtown Stuart and Hobe Sound hold so many spectacular murals that Stuart is part of the statewide Florida Mural Trail, and in Hobe Sound, you can enjoy self- or artist-guided tours, as well as private ones. Community members support several “Art in Public Places” projects, which are carefully planned to beautify specific locations and promote positivity.

Stroll around and you’ll feel how art is everywhere. Join a tour, take it in with the family, or scrutinize public installations and galleries solo, and tune in to what they say to you. For more intimate connections, take an art class at the Elliott Museum, or sign-up your aspiring student-artist to collaborate with local Art Council programs.
